IT System Admin-Intern (Non paid) Duration- 3 months Position Overview We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented IT Systems Administration Intern to join our team. This hands-on role offers direct exposure to the fundamentals of corporate IT operations, including physical and virtual server management, hardware asset management, network monitoring, user support, cloud administration, and foundational cybersecurity. Key Responsibilities Server Management & Maintenance: Assist with the provisioning, configuration, and maintenance of physical, virtual and cloud-based servers. Perform routine health checks, monitor disk space, manage system logs, and ensure OS updates/patches are applied regularly. Asset Management & Inventory: Physical tagging, tracking, and auditing of all IT hardware (servers, laptops, networking gear) utilizing IT Asset Management (ITAM) tools to ensure an accurate baseline inventory. Infrastructure & System Monitoring: Assist in monitoring server performance, network uptime, and resource utilization (CPU, memory, storage) using tools like Nagios, Zabbix, or PRTG; escalate alerts to senior team members. Network Operations Support: Assist with patch panel management, basic switch and router configurations, IP address allocation (DHCP/DNS), and troubleshooting local connectivity issues. Microsoft 365 / Entra ID Administration: Perform routine administrative tasks in Active Directory and Microsoft 365, including user provisioning/deprovisioning, password resets, access management, and distribution list updates. End-User Technical Support: Act as a point of contact for internal IT helpdesk tickets, troubleshooting hardware, software (Windows/macOS), printing issues, and peripherals. Information Security & Backups: Help deploy and verify endpoint security controls (antivirus, EDR), verify the successful execution of automated server backups, and ensure Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) compliance across user profiles. Technical Documentation: Draft and update step-by-step Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for internal IT processes, server configurations, and end-user self-service guides. Qualifications & Skills Technical Skills (Preferred or Familiarity with): Basic understanding of server operating systems (Windows Server 2019/2022 and/or Linux/Ubuntu/CentOS). Basic understanding of core networking principles (OSI model, TCP/IP, Subnetting, DNS, DHCP). Familiarity with Microsoft Windows Server ecosystems, Active Directory, or Azure/Entra ID. Exposure to desktop operating systems (Windows 10/11, macOS) and standard productivity suites. Interest in scripting or automation languages (PowerShell or Bash) for server automation is a significant plus. Soft Skills: Strong analytical and troubleshooting mind (root-cause methodology). Excellent verbal and written communication skills to support non-technical users. Highly organized with keen attention to detail (essential for asset tracking, server naming conventions, and configuration management).
